The village of Shelve lies just off the A488, about 12 miles south-west of Shrewsbury. entrance to Lower Farm

Coming from the north

From M6/M54 or from Telford, follow the A5 round the south of Shrewsbury. Turn left, leaving the A5, at the roundabout which is the junction with the A488 - signposted Bishop’s Castle.
Continue on this road (A488), passing through Hanwood, Pontesbury and Minsterley. At Minsterley, make sure to take the first exit at the roundabout. The road then climbs and winds through Plox Green, Wagbeach and the woods of the Hope Valley. About twelve miles from Shrewsbury and five and a half miles from Minsterley, look out for a 30 mph limit, then not very long after that a small crossroads with (when it’s working)  a lit-up ‘slow down’ sign. Turn left here, signposted to Pennerley, Shelve and the Bog.
The road rises uphill and passes through a patch of forestry. After about a mile, enter Shelve village. Pass the church on the left. Lower Farm is the last house in the village on the right, sitting slightly below the level of the road.

Coming from the south

From the  M40/M42 or M1, most travellers find it easiest to join the M6/M6Toll after Birmingham and approach from the Shrewsbury direction as above. Alternatively, if coming from Hereford / Leominster on the A49, follow this road north, passing Ludlow and going through Craven Arms. After passing through Craven Arms, turn left onto the A489 (Jewson’s builders’ merchants on corner) and follow this winding country road past turnings to Church Stretton, Lydbury North, Bishop’s Castle etc, until you reach a T-junction in the village of Lydham.

Turn right here and follow the A488 for about 7 miles (signposted Shrewsbury) until you reach a well-signposted small crossroads with light-up ‘slow down’ sign, where you turn right for Shelve, Pennerley and the Bog. After about a mile enter Shelve village. Pass the church on the left. Lower Farm is the last house in the village on the right, sitting slightly below the level of the road.  .
